The opportunity

Job Description

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Patient Care Technician III to provide direct patient care and support unit coordination on a float nights basis at Wexford Hospital. This full-time registry position works under the supervision of registered nurses to care for patients in stable condition and assist with the care of acutely ill patients. You will perform basic nursing procedures, maintain patient comfort and dignity, practice medical asepsis, and respond appropriately during emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including activities of daily living, vital signs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, intake and output monitoring, height and weight measurement, 12-lead EKG testing, blood glucose testing and monitoring, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, patient transport, documentation of oxygen therapy, early mobility and ambulation protocols, clean and dry dressing changes, catheterization procedures, IV access insertion and removal, and assistance with exams, treatments, and procedures (50% of role)
  • Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding for safety and falls prevention, hand washing, isolation protocols, maintaining a clean environment, and precepting newly hired PCTs (20% of role)
  • Accurately document vital signs, weights, intake and output, restraints, specimen collection, EKG completion, and all other treatments; report changes in patient's physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff (15% of role)
  • Participate in unit activities including supply stocking, equipment and appliance cleaning, checks, and retrieval (15% of role)
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience as a PCA, PCT, NA, LPN, EMT, or military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)
  • One year of experience in an acute or long-term care facility OR enrollment in an Associate's in Nursing program (at least halfway through) or Bachelor's in Nursing program (Junior year or higher)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficiency in IV insertion, phlebotomy, straight catheterization, and basic cardiac dysrhythmia training or successful completion of a cardiac dysrhythmia training course upon hire

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPR certification from American Heart Association
