The opportunity

Job Description

This position supports pediatric multi-specialty clinic operations by providing direct patient care assistance and front desk support. You will greet patients warmly, perform vital signs and basic clinical assessments, assist with patient flow, and help maintain a safe and organized clinic environment.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a pediatric multi-specialty clinic setting, supporting nurses and providers in delivering care to pediatric patients across multiple specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients on the phone and in the clinic in a warm, friendly manner
  • Register and interview patients to obtain accurate demographic and financial information
  • Schedule appointments and follow-up tests, manage referrals and prior authorizations
  • Escort patients into exam rooms and perform vital signs, weight, and height measurements
  • Obtain history of chief complaint for the visit and complete appropriate documentation in the patient chart
  • Report relevant information requiring immediate attention to the nurse or provider
  • Perform various point-of-care testing procedures and document results with quality control assurance
  • Stock supplies in assigned physician examination rooms
  • Assist with patient check-in and check-out as needed
  • Maintain infection control standards by cleaning specified equipment and areas; manage biohazard waste disposal
  • Document and report malfunctioning equipment and any disturbing incidents to the manager
  • Access Epic and other practice management systems to schedule patients and obtain documentation
  • Perform front desk tasks including meeting and directing patients and answering phones
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and activities
  • Complete annual Health Stream and HIPAA training modules and attend classes in safety, infection control, and new procedures
  • Act as a resource to office staff, using experience to guide less experienced team members
  • Demonstrate competency in age-appropriate patient care, comfort, and safety
  • Work within the clinic's scope of practice and take direction from charge personnel during emergencies

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant, EMT, or medical assistant program
  • BLS certification issued through American Heart Association
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification
  • Minimum one year of in-patient or medical office experience including direct patient care
  • Outstanding service excellence skills to guarantee quality patient care and patient satisfaction
  • Knowledge and skill to obtain vital signs and handle protected health information
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to work independently and assert initiative on performance improvement opportunities
  • Ability to navigate computer software using mouse, keyboard, stylus, and Windows-based applications
