This full-time Patient Care Technician II position supports orthopedic patient care in a clinic setting. You will be responsible for greeting patients, performing vital signs and basic clinical assessments, obtaining patient histories, and assisting nurses and providers with direct patient care. You will also manage front desk functions including patient check-in and check-out, phone communication, appointment scheduling, and data entry in Epic and other practice management systems.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients in a warm, friendly manner and escort them to exam rooms
- Perform vital signs, weight, height measurements, and obtain history of chief complaint
- Complete Point of Care Testing procedures with proper documentation and quality control
- Complete patient chart documentation accurately and legibly
- Report relevant information requiring immediate attention to the nurse or provider
- Stock supplies in assigned physician examination rooms
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out as needed
- Perform all front desk tasks including meeting and directing patients, answering phones, and scheduling appointments
- Access Epic and other applicable practice management systems to schedule patients and obtain documentation
- Maintain infection control standards by cleaning specified equipment and areas, removing biohazard bags from exam rooms, and disposing of waste appropriately
- Document and report malfunctioning equipment and disturbing incidents to the Manager
- Act as a resource to office staff, using skills and experience to guide less experienced staff
- Take direction from charge individual within scope of practice during emergency situations
- Preserve patient personal health information to ensure accurate records
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant, EMT, or medical assistant program
- BLS certification issued through American Heart Association
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification
- Minimum one year of in-patient or medical office experience with direct patient care
