Spencer Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the ICU in Spencer, Iowa. In this role, you will provide direct patient care support in a rural hospital setting, assisting with activities of daily living, patient hygiene, specimen collection, and maintaining a clean therapeutic environment. You will work closely with licensed nursing staff to support patient care operations and may float to other departments during periods of low census.
Clinical Setting
Spencer Hospital is a rural hospital located in northwest Iowa with over 500 employees. This position is based in the ICU and may require floating to other patient care departments or environmental services as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care including grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, and feeding
- Perform bedside glucose testing and obtain laboratory samples such as urinalysis and sputum specimens
- Maintain a clean, organized, and therapeutic patient environment
- Transport patients and restock supplies related to patient care needs
- Manage written and verbal patient information efficiently
- Prepare and maintain medical records
- Prepare, organize, and file charts for admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Maintain patient confidentiality and protect medical records and patient information
- Transcribe physician orders under the supervision of licensed nurses in a timely manner
- Monitor new orders and ensure verification by RN/LPN per hospital policy
- Identify and place appropriate pre-printed orders and consents on medical records
- Recognize and utilize medical terminology and approved abbreviations per hospital policy
- Assist with patient transfers within the hospital and to external facilities
- Participate in departmental and cleaning activities as assigned
- Follow appropriate cleaning and sanitation standards
- Complete daily cleaning checklists for assigned work areas
- Perform spot cleaning of carpets when floor maintenance staff is unavailable
Required Qualifications
- CNA certification at minimum
- BLS certification required or willingness to obtain upon hire (in-house education available)
- Ability to communicate effectively, remain flexible, multitask, and work comfortably with technological systems
- Willingness to float to other areas during low census or periods of greater need
Schedule
- 68 hours per pay period
- 6:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., 7 shifts per 2 weeks
- Every other weekend required
- Opportunity to work weekends only
- Schedule may fluctuate based on departmental needs
