Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for our ICU. In this role, you will provide essential direct patient care support to the nursing team in a fast-paced intensive care environment. You will assist with patient hygiene, vital signs monitoring, specimen collection, patient transport, and other clinical tasks under the direction of licensed nursing staff.
Clinical Setting
Mount Sinai Medical Center is South Florida's largest private independent not-for-profit hospital, operating 12 facilities across Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties with a 674-bed main campus. The ICU is part of a comprehensive medical center offering 38 medical services including cancer care, emergency care, orthopedics, and cardiovascular care.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing unit and patient rooms for admissions, transfers, and post-operative patients
- Position, lift, turn, and ambulate patients using proper body mechanics and appropriate equipment
- Implement infection control measures to reduce the risk of health-associated infections
- Report changes in patient condition or behavior to the LPN or RN in a timely manner
- Assist with admission, transport, transfer, and discharge of patients, including care of personal property and clothing
- Ensure patient personal and oral hygiene needs are met daily and as necessary
- Provide catheter care daily and as needed, reporting pertinent observations to the LPN or RN
- Accurately take vital signs and record them in the patient record promptly, reporting to the LPN or RN
- Distribute water and record correct intake and output when indicated
- Obtain and label specimens accurately (sputum, stool, urine) while maintaining appropriate precautions
- Prepare patients for surgery and other procedures, including prep and clip, vital sign taking and recording, assisting with bathing or voiding, and removing and securing dentures, jewelry, and other belongings
- Weigh patients as assigned and record weights, alerting the RN to any significant weight gain or loss
- Make frequent patient rounds at least every two hours, repositioning for comfort and offering bathroom assistance
- Assist the RN with post-mortem care, including labeling and securing patient valuables
- Provide additional patient care as directed by the licensed nurse, including enemas, sitz baths, applying and removing ice bags, K-pads, binders, pelvic or buck's traction, blood glucose monitoring, and simple dressing changes
Required Qualifications
- CPR certification
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- One year of experience preferred
Certifications and Licenses
- State of Florida Nursing Assistant Certification is preferred
- CPR certification is required
- If assigned to the cost center Nursing-6 DE HMT South, you must obtain a Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate within 90 days of employment
