GBMC HealthCare is seeking a Patient Care Technician I (Wound Care) on a PRN basis to assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses in providing direct and indirect patient care. Working under direct supervision, you will support delegated nursing procedures and collaborate with unit leadership to promote excellent patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide care, comfort, and safety for assigned patients under direct nurse supervision
- Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, and bed linen changes
- Use proper infection control techniques to protect patients and prevent contamination
- Perform delegated nursing care procedures as directed
- Observe patients and report reactions or changes in condition to nursing personnel
- Complete close observation documentation
- Distribute patient trays and nourishments, fill water pitchers, and assist with feeding as needed
- Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms, including disposing of soiled linens and stocking supplies
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, including transportation and securing valuables
- Escort patients while adhering to safety precautions
- Perform routine vital signs, intake and output measurements, weights, and finger sticks for blood glucose
- Use pulse oximetry equipment and perform point-of-care testing
- Obtain lab specimens such as urine collections, sputum cultures, and heel sticks
- Set up oxygen therapy and reinforce incentive spirometry use
- Conduct bladder scans and perform oral suctioning as directed
- Operate EKG machines as directed by the nurse
- Discontinue IV lines and saline locks as directed
- Perform simple dressing changes as directed
- Insert, remove, and empty Foley catheters as directed
- Empty and record other drains as directed
- Utilize electronic medical records for appropriate record keeping
- Clean and stock supply shelves
- Precept new staff, coach and mentor colleagues, and assist with creating nursing support assignments
- Participate in performance improvement, Lean Management System activities, and audits
- Perform quality controls for EKG transmission and glucometers
- Collaborate with charge nurse on daily unit planning and lead shift huddles
- Participate in departmental committees and demonstrate active problem-solving
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current registration with State of Maryland Board of Nursing Examiners as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) I or CNA II
- Heart Saver CPR Certification
- Ability to read and write English to provide basic patient care and understand detailed instructions
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations for recording weights, vital signs, and routine information
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Competence in safely handling medications
- Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail when performing basic patient care tasks
- Ability to walk and stand up to 90 percent of work time
- Ability to lift and position patients
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 6 months of experience in direct patient care
Compensation
- Pay range: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour
- Final salary offer based on candidate qualifications, education, experience, and alignment with organizational needs
