The opportunity

Job Description

This part-time position provides direct patient care and assists with unit coordination in the ICU at Allegheny Health Network. You will perform basic nursing procedures for stable patients and assist registered nurses in caring for acutely ill patients. The role requires knowledge of ICU patient populations, adherence to medical asepsis protocols, and respect for patient dignity and privacy. You will work under the general supervision of the RN for stable patients and direct supervision for acutely ill or complex patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including activities of daily living, skin surveys, vital signs, ambulation assistance, specimen collection, intake and output monitoring, blood glucose testing, point of care testing, bladder scanning, and patient transport
  • Document oxygen therapy, early mobilization and ambulation protocols, and assistance with exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift reports, hourly rounding for safety, falls prevention, hand washing, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean environment
  • Accurately document vital signs, weights, intake and output, restraints, specimen collection, and all treatments in the electronic medical record
  • Report changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff
  • Participate in unit activities including supply stocking, equipment and appliance cleaning, and equipment retrieval
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics
  • Basic computer skills
  • CPR certification from American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Experience

  • Limited or no experience is acceptable; candidates must be able to attend 2 weeks of training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • Currently enrolled in an Associate's or Bachelor's degree nursing program with at least one completed clinical rotation
