Patient Care Technician I, ARU, Casual, AVH

This position provides direct patient care and assists with unit coordination in the Acute Respiratory Unit (ARU) at Allegheny Health Network. As a Patient Care Technician I, you will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses to support patients in stable condition and assist with the care of acutely ill patients. This is a casual position.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an acute care inpatient unit environment, supporting patients across a range of acuity levels and assisting the nursing team with both direct patient care and unit operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including activities of daily living, skin assessment, vital signs, ambulation assistance, specimen collection, intake and output monitoring, meal consumption documentation, height and weight measurement, blood glucose testing and monitoring, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, patient transport, and documentation of oxygen therapy
• Assist with early mobilization and ambulation protocols, patient examinations, treatments, and procedures
• Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding to promote safety such as falls prevention, hand washing, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment
• Accurately document vital signs, weights, intake and output, restraints, specimen collection, and all other treatments in the electronic medical record
• Report changes in patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, as well as any issues or concerns identified to nursing staff
• Participate in unit activities including supply stocking, equipment and appliance cleaning, checks, and retrieval
• Perform other duties as assigned or required

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to perform basic mathematics
• Basic computer skills
• CPR certification from the American Heart Association
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Experience

Limited or no experience is acceptable. Candidates with limited or no experience must be able to attend 2 weeks of training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Acute care experience within the last 3 years
• Currently enrolled in an Associate's or Bachelor's degree nursing program with at least one completed clinical rotation
