The opportunity

Job Description

This position provides direct patient care and assists with unit coordination in the 4 South ICU at Wexford Hospital. As a Patient Care Technician I, you will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses to support the care of patients in stable condition and assist with the care of acutely ill patients. You will perform basic nursing procedures, maintain patient comfort and dignity, practice medical asepsis, and respond appropriately during emergency situations.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a 4-bed ICU unit within an acute care hospital setting, supporting both stable and acutely ill patient populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including activities of daily living, skin surveys, vital signs monitoring, ambulation assistance, specimen collection, intake and output documentation, meal consumption monitoring, height and weight measurement, blood glucose testing and monitoring, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, patient transport, and documentation of oxygen use and early mobilization protocols (30% of role)
  • Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding to promote safety such as falls prevention, hand washing, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment (30% of role)
  • Accurately document vital signs, weights, intake and output, restraints, specimen collection, and all other treatments; report changes in patient's physical, mental, and emotional conditions as well as any issues or concerns to nursing staff (20% of role)
  • Participate in unit activities including supply stocking, equipment and appliance cleaning, checks, and retrieval (20% of role)
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics
  • Basic computer skills
  • If you have limited or no experience, you must be able to attend 2 weeks of training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • Currently enrolled in an Associate's or Bachelor's degree nursing program with at least one completed clinical rotation

Licenses and Certifications
