Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to provide direct patient care and support nursing staff on the 2R Rehabilitation unit at Saint Vincent Hospital. This full-time position works under the supervision of registered nurses to care for patients in stable condition and assist with the care of acutely ill patients. You will perform basic nursing procedures, maintain patient comfort and safety, and support unit coordination activities.
Clinical Setting
You will work on a rehabilitation unit in an acute care hospital setting, caring for patients in stable condition while assisting RNs with more complex patient needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care including activities of daily living, skin assessment, vital signs, ambulation assistance, specimen collection, intake and output monitoring, meal consumption documentation, height and weight measurement, blood glucose testing, point of care testing, bladder scanning, patient transport, and documentation of oxygen use and early mobilization protocols
- Assist with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift reports, hourly safety rounding, falls prevention, hand hygiene, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean and orderly patient environment
- Accurately document vital signs, weights, intake and output, restraints, specimen collection, and all treatments in the electronic medical record
- Report changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff
- Participate in unit activities including supply stocking, equipment and appliance cleaning, checking, and retrieval
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to perform basic mathematics
- Basic computer skills
- Limited or no experience acceptable; must be able to attend 2 weeks of training
Licenses and Certifications
- CPR certification from American Heart Association
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
Preferred Qualifications
- Acute care experience within the last 3 years
- Currently enrolled in an Associate's or Bachelor's degree nursing program with at least one completed clinical rotation
Schedule
Full-time rotational schedule of 36 hours per week working three 12-hour shifts. You must be flexible to work rotating day, evening, overnight, and weekend coverage.
