Horizon Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support the efficient operation of our rehabilitation unit. In this role, you will manage patient-related data and communications while assisting with direct patient care duties. You will answer and initiate telephone calls, manage written messages, organize and complete charts, requisitions, reports, and other forms. You will also assist patients with activities such as bathing and feeding.
Responsibilities
- Direct the orderly flow of unit and patient-related data
- Answer and initiate telephone calls and manage written messages
- Organize and complete charts, requisitions, reports, and other forms
- Assist with patient care duties including bathing and feeding
- Maintain excellent working relationships with co-workers, healthcare professionals, and other health-related facilities
- Prioritize tasks and complete duties within allotted time
- Demonstrate respect for patient rights, dignity, and individuality in all interactions
- Maintain honesty and integrity in the care and use of patient and hospital property
- Interact tactfully with facility staff, administration, patients, families, customers, vendors, and government agencies
- Attend and participate in facility meetings
- Maintain knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures
- Participate in the hospital-wide safety program to identify risks and reduce healthcare errors
- Participate in relevant in-service training sessions
- Apply hand-washing principles and infection control standards during daily work
- Enter and record data timely and accurately while protecting patient confidentiality
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of a unit secretary course or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Regular and punctual attendance
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, and diagram instructions
- Ability to define and solve problems and collect data
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with various teams and individuals
- Working knowledge of professional standards of practice
- Working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements
- Strong organizational, prioritizing, and analytical skills
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
- Ability to project a professional image
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum one year of experience in a medical clerical field
- Knowledge of medical terminology
