Patient Care Technician – Heart & Vascular Inpatient

Join Baystate Medical Center as a Patient Care Technician supporting our MassMutual 6 Heart & Vascular Inpatient unit in Springfield, Massachusetts. This 34-bed acute care cardiovascular telemetry unit specializes in post-operative cardiac surgery patients, TAVR procedures, vascular surgery patients, and cardiac post-procedural patients. You will provide hands-on patient care, support patient safety and comfort, recognize important changes in patient condition, and work alongside nurses and the broader care team to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.

Clinical Setting

Baystate Medical Center is the only hospital in the region that can stop a heart attack instantly by unblocking an artery 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The hospital is in the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for angioplasty procedures and performs more than 80% of all cardiac surgeries in western Massachusetts, making it one of the top three highest-volume cardiac surgery centers in the state.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, age-appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, elimination, and personal care while promoting patient dignity and safety
• Monitor and accurately document vital signs, weights, intake and output, and other physiological parameters; promptly report significant changes in patient condition to nursing staff
• Assist with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and physician examinations in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
• Provide one-to-one patient observation as needed, recognize changes in patient condition or safety concerns, and respond appropriately to emergency situations
• Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members while maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and patient-centered care

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• BLS CPR certification through American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• At least one year of patient care experience (experience can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, or acute care)
• PCT training or CNA training

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Day shift
• 36 hours per week
• Three twelve-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend required

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly pay range: $17.01 to $28.08 (midpoint $21.57). New hires typically start in the lower part of the range based on relevant experience.
