Jefferson Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician for a full-time night shift position (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM) in the Medical/Surgical unit at Washington Township. This role provides direct and indirect patient care activities under the supervision of licensed clinical team members, with a focus on patient and family-centered care that addresses the physiological, emotional, and social needs of diverse patient populations.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patients, families, and designated care partners
- Perform validated and designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction of licensed clinical team members
- Actively promote and maintain a safe patient care environment
- Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations
- Conduct patient rounds as assigned, anticipate patient needs, and respond promptly to patient call lights or pages
- May be assigned the role of virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs
- May facilitate clinical exams under the direction of distant providers during telehealth encounters, including utilization of peripheral devices, video conferencing equipment, and software such as Epic and Vidyo
Clinical Setting
Medical/Surgical unit at a Jefferson Health campus in Washington Township, New Jersey. This position may involve collaboration with all clinical departments and may include telehealth support activities.
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry 40-50 lbs, including pushing/pulling patients on beds or stretchers (requires 29 lbs. push force) and lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight
- Frequent to continuous standing and walking; patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift
- May be required to perform kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR as specific to role activities
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and role within the interprofessional team
- Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role
- Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life and ability to apply this knowledge to patients
- Knowledge of risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and ability to take steps to reduce these risks
- Ability to convey respect and collaborate with patients, families, and designated care partners
- Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively
- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross upon hire

Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly rate: $18.66 to $26.60 (actual hiring rate determined based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications)
- This position is not eligible for an annual incentive
