The opportunity

Job Description

Jefferson Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Emergency Department at Kennedy University Hospitals in Washington Township, New Jersey. This full-time position works nights from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., providing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of licensed clinical team members.

You will support patients and families with a commitment to patient-centered care, addressing physiological, emotional, and social needs. This role may also involve collaborating with clinical departments to facilitate and assist with telehealth encounters between patients and providers.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patients, families, and designated care partners
  • Perform designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction of licensed clinical team members
  • Actively promote and maintain a safe patient care environment
  • Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations
  • Conduct patient rounds as assigned, anticipate patient needs, and respond promptly to patient call lights or pages
  • May be assigned the role of virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs
  • May facilitate clinical exams under the direction of distant providers, utilizing peripheral devices, video conferencing equipment, and software such as Epic and Vidyo to ensure comprehensive virtual care encounters

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and your role in the interprofessional team
  • Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role
  • Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life and ability to apply this knowledge to patients
  • Knowledge of risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and ability to take steps to reduce these risks
  • Ability to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and designated care partner in care
  • Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs
  • Use the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and healthcare
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross upon hire

Additional Requirements

  • LVHN colleagues must successfully complete LVHN's inexperienced technical partner course

Physical Demands

  • Lift and carry 40-50 lbs, including pushing/pulling patients on beds and stretchers (requires 29 lbs. push force) and lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight
  • Frequent to continuous standing and walking; patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift
  • May be required to perform activities including kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR

Schedule

  • Full-time, nights: 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
  • Regular employment

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $18.66 to $26.60 (based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications)
  • This position is not eligible for an annual incentive
