Jefferson Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide direct and indirect patient care on a Medical/Surgical unit in Washington Township. Working day shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM, you will support the licensed clinical team in delivering patient-centered care that addresses the physiological, emotional, and social needs of diverse patient populations.
Responsibilities
- Provide designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction of licensed clinical team members
- Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patients, families, and designated care partners
- Conduct patient rounds as assigned, anticipate patient needs, and respond promptly to patient call lights and pages
- Actively promote and maintain a safe patient care environment
- Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations
- May be assigned the role of virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs
- May facilitate clinical exams under the direction of distant providers during telehealth encounters, utilizing peripheral devices, video conferencing equipment, and software such as Epic and Vidyo to ensure comprehensive virtual care encounters
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry 40-50 lbs, including pushing/pulling patients on beds and stretchers (requires 29 lbs. push force) and lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight
- Frequent to continuous standing and walking; patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift
- May be required to perform kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR as specific to role activities
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and role within the interprofessional team
- Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role
- Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life and ability to apply this knowledge to patients daily
- Knowledge of risks faced by patients in healthcare environments and ability to take steps to reduce these risks
- Ability to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and designated care partner in care
- Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively
- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication behaviors
- Use of partnership language with patients and families, engaging them in their health and healthcare
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire

Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly rate: $18.66 to $26.60 (actual hiring rate determined based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications)
- Not eligible for annual incentive
