Patient Care Technician - Emergency Department

The Patient Care Technician in the Emergency Department provides direct para-professional nursing care, phlebotomy services, patient transportation, and registration and clerical support. You will work within nurse stations and patient care areas, serving a diverse patient population including newborns, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a fast-paced emergency setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy procedures
• Transport patients as needed
• Provide direct para-professional nursing care to Emergency Department patients
• Complete registration and clerical duties
• Maintain responsibility and accountability for assigned patient groups across all age ranges
• Communicate effectively with unit staff and other departments

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Current BLS certification required within 7 days of hire
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain composure in stressful situations
• Basic computer skills or ability to learn and use hospital computer systems
• Effective communication skills with unit staff and other departments

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology

Orientation

• You must complete general hospital orientation and unit-specific orientation requirements
