Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Discharge Unit at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. This part-time position provides direct care to a diverse adult patient population, working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compassionate, high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe, age-appropriate patient care and obtain and document vital signs, measurements, intake/output, and changes in patient condition
- Promptly report patient concerns to the appropriate clinical team member
- Perform approved treatments and procedures, including dressing changes, specimen collection, EKGs, and Point-of-Care testing in accordance with Baystate Health policies
- Assist nurses and providers with examinations, treatments, procedures, elimination needs, and other delegated patient care activities
- Monitor patients and report unexpected changes
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team
- Recognize culturally based needs and support both clinical and non-clinical team activities
- Maintain patient safety, initiate appropriate emergency procedures, and provide one-to-one patient observation when required
- Maintain required clinical competencies
Schedule
- Part-time, 20 hours per week
- Day shift: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday through Friday
- 5-hour shifts
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support certification from American Heart Association
- Certified Nurse Aide certification
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly pay range: $17.01 to $28.08 (midpoint $21.57)
