Patient Care Technician Detox

CareWell Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician for our detox unit to provide direct patient care and support to nursing and medical staff. In this role, you will assist with patient examinations, treatments, and daily care activities in a substance abuse treatment setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist nurses and physicians with patient examination and treatment
• Obtain vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations
• Perform EKG procedures and blood specimen collection using proper technique
• Perform point-of-care testing including finger-stick blood glucose monitoring
• Change patient bed linens, empty Foleys, and perform bed baths independently or with nursing staff as directed
• Receive verbal or written report from the RN prior to providing patient care
• Document all patient care activities in the electronic medical record
• Maintain communication with the healthcare team
• Answer all call lights and assist patients with personal hygiene, toileting, grooming, and feeding as appropriate
• Assist patients with mobility, bed transfers, and ambulation
• Provide one-to-one observation and line-of-sight monitoring as requested
• Perform daily rounds on all patients independently and with the primary nurse or nurse manager
• Orient, monitor, and provide feedback to new hires
• Collect data and unit-specific quality indicator measures
• Ensure patient rooms are organized, clean, stocked at par level, and adequately supplied
• Properly dispose of waste materials including linens, sharps, and garbage
• Maintain safe equipment by keeping all devices plugged in and charged
• Report malfunctioning equipment immediately
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
• Perform service recovery and address patient and visitor issues immediately
• Complete all other duties as assigned by the RN or nurse manager

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• EKG certification
• Phlebotomy certificate
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association for Healthcare
• One year or more of inpatient psychiatry or substance abuse experience
• Great interpersonal and customer service skills
• Professional telephone etiquette
• Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and lift over 50 pounds
• Ability to maintain proper uniform attire at all times

• Bachelor's degree

Schedule

• Non-exempt full-time position
• 37.5-hour work week during regular business hours
• Must be willing to work holidays, weekends, and provide additional coverage as needed
