Cooley Dickinson Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support clinical operations in the Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology (CVIR) department. This is a 16-hour per week, day shift position working Monday through Friday on varying days. The PCA will perform direct and non-direct patient care duties under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, including routine patient care activities, clerical responsibilities, supply management, and messenger duties. The role may also include functioning as a patient care observer to monitor for patient safety when 1:1 observation is required.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and reports to the Nurse Manager.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing personnel
- Assist with direct patient care duties as assigned
- Complete clerical and supply-related tasks
- Perform messenger responsibilities
- Function as a patient care observer when 1:1 observation is required
- Perform other patient care and unit-related duties as needed
Required Qualifications (Certified Position)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Nursing Assistant certification, Medical Assistant certification, or active enrollment in a nursing program with a minimum of 6 months of student clinical experience
- Six months to one year of nursing assistant experience
- Ability to perform routine patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing personnel
- Ability to multitask and handle stressful crisis situations effectively
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
- Demonstrated typing skills and computer experience
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
Alternative Qualifications (Non-Certified Position)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification
- Completion of PCA educational objectives and unit-specific training as outlined by the Professional Development Department
- Ability to perform routine patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing personnel
- Ability to multitask and handle stressful crisis situations effectively
- Demonstrated typing skills and computer experience
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and/or oral instructions
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills and a professional demeanor
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three years of secretarial experience
- Healthcare experience

Frequent lifting of 35+ pounds with assisted device and carrying of 20-35 pounds is required. Compensation
- Hourly pay range: $20.73 - $28.82
