Patient Care Technician CNA Orthopedics

Join the Medical Surgical/Orthopedics unit at Intermountain Health St Vincent Regional Hospital in Billings as a Patient Care Technician. In this role, you will function as a clinical support partner to the patient care team, assisting with direct patient care and various clinical support tasks under the direction of licensed professionals.

Clinical Setting

You will work on the Medical Surgical/Orthopedics unit at St Vincent Regional Hospital, providing care to orthopedic and medical surgical patients.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, providing fresh water and ice, ambulating patients, comfort measures, and responding to patient and family requests with excellent customer service
• Report and record patient care findings and data in a timely manner, quickly reporting changes in patient condition and securing qualified assistance as needed
• Perform telemetry duties as required based on unit assignments and function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, addressing patient care needs, and collaborating with the patient care team
• Transport medications from the delivery system to the RN as required
• Collaborate and consult with the RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care
• Assume responsibilities of a health unit coordinator when needed, including answering phones, transcribing physician orders, managing unit records, and organizing, stocking, and maintaining unit supplies
• Implement the plan of care as delegated by licensed professionals
• Perform assigned duties within scope of practice and perform specialized procedures with skill validation according to regulatory standards
• Foster a safe environment by complying with safety policies and taking appropriate action in emergencies

Required Qualifications

• Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of Montana
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers
• Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; and identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; and navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Schedule and Compensation

This is a full-time position with variable shifts consisting of three 12-hour shifts per week. Some weekends and holidays are required. Scheduled weekly hours are 36.

The hourly range for this position is $18.40 to $23.92, depending on experience.
