The Patient Care Technician on the Clinical Decision Unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services under the direction of a registered nurse. The Clinical Decision Unit is a 16-bed outpatient observation unit that provides monitoring, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment for adult patients while clinical decisions are made regarding hospital admission or discharge. This role directly impacts patient comfort and outcomes of care.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobilization
- Obtain and record vital signs
- Support admit and discharge procedures
- Update and retrieve patient information
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly patient environment
- Act as a member of the multidisciplinary care team to identify and address patient care needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Clinical Setting
The Clinical Decision Unit operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays, providing observation services to patients who do not meet hospital admission criteria but require additional monitoring and evaluation.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
- One year of patient care experience in an acute care hospital setting, preferably an emergency room
Schedule
- Day/Evening shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Rotating weekends and holidays
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays
Compensation
- Hourly range: $18.27 (minimum) to $27.40 (maximum), with a midpoint of $22.84
- Annual salary range: $38,000 (minimum) to $57,000 (maximum), with a midpoint of $47,500
- Non-exempt position eligible for overtime pay
