Patient Care Technician Certified Acute Trauma PRN Days

University Medical Center is seeking a Certified Patient Care Technician for a PRN days position in our acute trauma setting. As a Patient Care Technician, you will work under the direction of Registered Nurses and Licensed Therapists, providing direct patient care in a fast-paced academic medical center that serves as the region's safety net hospital.

Clinical Setting

University Medical Center is the largest medical training center for healthcare professionals in Louisiana and serves as a world-class academic medical center within LCMC Health. The facility has a 300+ year legacy of serving poor and underserved communities.

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned priority technical procedures and maintain a safe environment for patients
• Provide care services including basic life support (CPR), activities of daily living (ADLs), restorative care, intake and output calculation, lifting, ambulating, transferring, positioning, weights, equipment use, vital signs, phlebotomy, dressing changes, and obtaining EKGs
• Prepare patient rooms, chart in the electronic medical record, clean unit equipment, and order inventory of medical and office supplies
• Prioritize assigned tasks and patient care activities based on acuity of need, resource availability, patient preference, and departmental needs
• Report abnormal patient findings and situations to the RN or other licensed healthcare providers and take actions to correct unsafe conditions
• Provide rationale for actions or decisions based on logic, experience, intuition, and established policies and procedures
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care
• Seek supervision or assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely
• Initiate and maintain job-specific interventions to ensure continuity of safe and effective care
• Delegate tasks to other team members to accomplish direct patient care or support activities
• Question the appropriateness of delegated tasks for clarification of concerns

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with appropriate work experience
• One year of clinical care experience; CNA or PCT experience in a healthcare setting preferred
• One of the following certifications:
• Certified Medical Assistant (MA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants, OR
• Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) from the Louisiana State Department of Health, OR
• Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) from the National Health Careers Association, OR
• Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT) from the National Health Careers Association
• American Heart Association BLS certification
• Non-Violent Crisis Prevention certification (CPI or NCI-CPI) from the Crisis Prevention Institute

• PRN (as needed) position
