Patient Care Technician-Cardiac Telemetry Part Time Nights

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Cardiac Telemetry to join our nursing team on a part-time nights schedule. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide essential patient care activities on our cardiac telemetry unit, supporting patients and the nursing staff in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff
• Assist with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly
• Answer telephone, intercom, and call lights in a polite manner using appropriate telephone etiquette and communicate information to appropriate staff, family, and patients
• Manage overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed
• Perform pre-census and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking abilities while functioning effectively under stressful situations
• Utilize critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work quickly as patient and unit needs change
• Serve as liaison between patient care units and all other patient-related departments

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or current nursing school student with at least one semester of clinical completed
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or graduate of a phlebotomy course
