Patient Care Technician Cardiac Intermediate Full Time Nights

Join Northwestern Medicine's Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute as a Patient Care Technician on our 26-bed Cardiac Intermediate step-down unit. This full-time night position offers the opportunity to provide essential patient care support in a suburban setting with access to advanced cardiac care typically found only at major academic medical centers. Our unit consistently ranks in the country's top decile for patient satisfaction and cares for patients with diverse cardiovascular diagnoses, including those recovering from cardiac surgeries and procedures.

Schedule

• Full-time nights: 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM
• Rotating weekends

Responsibilities

• Perform basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking abilities while functioning effectively under stressful situations
• Apply critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work as patient and unit needs change
• Serve as liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments
• Answer telephone, intercom, and call lights in a professional manner and communicate information to appropriate staff, family, or patients
• Manage overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed
• Perform pre-census activities and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or enrollment in nursing school with at least one semester of clinical completed
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience
• Graduation from an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Phlebotomy course
