Rochester General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Acute Neurology and Stroke department. In this role, you will provide direct and indirect patient care under the direction of licensed nurses and RNs, supporting the care delivery team in a fast-paced acute care setting. You will work with patients experiencing neurological conditions and stroke, assisting with their daily care needs and contributing to the overall functioning of the unit.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and indirect activities to support unit operations
- Take and record patient vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain level
- Assist patients with hygiene, bathing, grooming, and bed linen changes
- Support patients with mobility, including sitting, standing, walking, and transfers
- Assist with patient ambulation, feeding, and safe lifting and positioning
- Participate in patient admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members
- Perform clerical duties including chart transcription and maintenance
- Maintain safe and competent care practices in accordance with treatment plans
- Work as an active member of the interdisciplinary care delivery team
Schedule
- 36 hours per week
- Days shift, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18 years old
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of Nursing Fundamentals, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, experience as a medical assistant or technician in a health-related facility, or participation in a Patient Care Technician training program
- Associate's degree
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
Physical Requirements
This is a moderate clinical role requiring continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20 to 50 pounds, along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. You will perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. You may be exposed to infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are required. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for any physical requirements reported by the employee or employee's physician.
Compensation
- Pay range: $19.00 to $21.00 per hour
- Individual rates may vary based on experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts
