The opportunity

Job Description

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for acute care settings across our 12 facilities in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. This role supports the nursing team in delivering direct patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment, including our 674-bed main campus facility with 38 medical services.

As a PCT, you will work under the direction of licensed nurses to provide essential patient care and support clinical operations on acute care units.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing patient rooms and units for admissions, transfers, and post-operative patients
  • Use proper body mechanics when positioning, lifting, turning, and ambulating patients; apply appropriate equipment as needed
  • Implement infection control measures to reduce the risk of health-associated infections
  • Report changes in patient condition or behavior to the LPN or RN promptly
  • Assist with patient admissions, transport, transfers, and discharges, including care of personal property and clothing
  • Provide safe care to patients with varying acuity levels
  • Ensure patient personal and oral hygiene needs are met daily and as necessary; provide catheter care and report pertinent observations to the LPN or RN
  • Accurately take and record vital signs; report findings to the LPN or RN promptly
  • Distribute water and record intake and output as indicated
  • Obtain, label, and maintain specimens (sputum, stool, urine) while observing appropriate precautions
  • Prepare patients for surgery and procedures, including skin prep and clipping, vital sign monitoring, assisting with bathing or voiding, and securing dentures, jewelry, and belongings
  • Weigh patients as assigned and alert the RN to significant weight changes
  • Make frequent patient rounds at least every two hours; reposition patients for comfort and assist with bathroom needs
  • Assist the RN with post-mortem care, including labeling and securing patient valuables
  • Provide additional patient care as directed by the licensed nurse, including enemas, sitz baths, applying and removing ice bags, K-pads, binders, traction, blood glucose monitoring, and simple dressing changes

Schedule

  • Days and nights, 3 days per week
  • 12-hour shifts
  • Rotating weekends and holidays

Required Qualifications

  • CPR certification required
  • High school diploma preferred
  • One year of experience preferred
  • State of Florida Nursing Assistant Certification preferred
  • If assigned to the Nursing - 6 DE HMT South cost center, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate must be obtained within 90 days of employment
