Join Lowell General Hospital's M3 Medical Surgical Unit as a Patient Care Technician, where you'll provide essential support to patients and families in a caring, attentive manner. M3 is the hospital's orthopedic center of distinction, recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield, caring for over 1,000 total joint replacements annually. The unit also specializes in spine care and orthopedic trauma, while providing comprehensive acute care to adult patients with diverse diagnoses and co-morbidities. The 26-bed unit offers an excellent opportunity to develop clinical skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Clinical Setting

Responsibilities
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and tests including glucometer use, vital signs, weights, urinalysis, blood glucose, microalbumin, and A1C testing
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) while maintaining privacy and safety, including meal preparation and assistance
- Respond to call lights in a timely manner
- Assist with patient ambulation and transfers using appropriate equipment such as hoyer lifts
- Provide complete hygienic care including distributing linens, making beds, changing linens and briefs, managing bedpans and urinals, and assisting with catheter care
- Administer cleansing enemas
- Apply principles of prevention to maintain skin integrity and skeletal muscular alignment
- Change simple dry sterile dressings
- Assist ostomy patients with pouching and preventative skin care
- Prepare and administer hot and cold applications including sitz baths, soaks, and packs
- Apply supportive appliances such as slings, ace bandages, elastic stockings, and binders
- Obtain, document, and reconcile allergy and medication lists
Schedule
- 36 hours per week
- Day/Evening shift: 7am-7pm
- Every other weekend Saturday and Sunday shifts required
- Holiday shift requirement per department guidelines
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent
- Three years of experience in healthcare or nursing services
- Successful completion of courses in EKG and Phlebotomy
Physical Requirements
- Lifting up to 30-35 lbs and turning patients
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting
- Manual dexterity for fine hand manipulation and computer keyboard operation
- Ability to see computer screens and reports
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel
- Ability to work as a team member with a caring and collegial attitude
- Ability to work under stressful conditions, adapt to changing pace, manage frequent interruptions, and respond to emergencies and critically ill patients
- Ability to recognize patient data relative to age-specific needs and provide care according to department policies and procedures
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
Compensation
Base pay range: $20.12 - $25.15 per hour (based on full-time equivalent). Individual offers are determined using a comprehensive approach that considers relevant experience, certifications, education, skills, and internal equity.
