Patient Care Technician - 12C CTSICU - AGH - Full Time

This full-time position provides direct patient care and assists with unit coordination in the 12C CTSICU (Cardiac/Thoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit) at Allegheny General Hospital. You will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses, performing basic nursing procedures for stable patients and assisting with the care of acutely ill and complex patients. This role is ideal for individuals seeking to develop clinical skills in an acute care intensive care setting.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a cardiac and thoracic surgery intensive care unit, caring for patients in varying acuity levels from stable to acutely ill.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including activities of daily living, skin assessment, vital signs, ambulation assistance, specimen collection, intake and output monitoring, meal consumption documentation, height and weight measurement, blood glucose testing and monitoring, point of care testing, bladder scanning, patient transport, and documentation of oxygen use
• Assist with early mobilization and ambulation protocols, patient examinations, treatments, and procedures
• Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift reports and purposeful hourly rounding to promote safety, falls prevention, hand hygiene, and isolation protocols
• Maintain a clean and orderly patient environment
• Accurately document vital signs, weights, intake and output, restraints, specimen collection, and all treatments in the electronic medical record
• Report changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff
• Participate in unit activities including supply stocking, equipment and appliance cleaning, checking, and retrieval
• Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers
• Perform other duties as assigned or required

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to perform basic mathematics
• Basic computer skills
• If you have limited or no experience, you must be able to attend 2 weeks of training

Licenses and Certifications

• CPR certification from the American Heart Association
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Preferred Qualifications

• Acute care experience within the last 3 years
• Currently enrolled in an Associate's or Bachelor's degree nursing program with at least one completed clinical rotation
