MidHudson Regional Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for a full-time, 12-hour night shift position (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM) in the Progressive Care Unit. This role is union-represented through 1199.
As a Patient Care Technician, you will work under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse to provide basic patient care and support clinical staff in delivering individualized patient care plans. You will be responsible for completing assigned tasks safely and in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide activities of daily living (ADL) assistance including hygiene, toileting, and feeding while recognizing patient limitations and initiating appropriate action
- Assist with patient lifting, moving, ambulation, and transfers as essential functions of the position
- Support traction and cast care as directed
- Transport patients and accompany them on discharge as requested
- Collect specimens, label accurately, and deliver to the laboratory; perform EKGs or phlebotomy as needed
- Answer call lights promptly and communicate patient and family needs to appropriate staff members
- Report changes in patient condition and anticipate adverse outcomes, communicating concerns to the RN in a timely manner
- Maintain clean and safe patient environments, including updating whiteboards in patient rooms
- Report unsafe conditions and broken or failing equipment to the Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager
- Restock utility rooms, kitchens, file cabinets, nurse stations, and common areas as directed
- Transfer patients' personal effects, including valuables, as needed
- Coordinate with team members to establish priorities and ensure timely task completion
- Maintain accurate records of patient activity and treatments including intake and output, vital signs, and blood glucose checks
- Participate in orientation of new patient care technicians and float personnel
- Assist in de-escalating potential conflicts and recognize situations requiring intervention
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 months recent experience in a similar healthcare setting, behavioral health setting, or completion of one clinical rotation as a nursing student
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to ambulate, lift, and transfer patients
Preferred Qualifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Compensation
Hiring range: $22.0391 per hour
