Akron Children's is seeking a Patient Care Assistant for the Operating Room to provide continuous observation and individual care for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on children and their families in a pediatric surgical setting.
Clinical Setting
This role is based onsite in the Main Operating Room at Akron Children's, working with pediatric patients in a surgical environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide continuous, one-on-one observation and monitoring of assigned patients
- Provide evidence-based de-escalation interventions
- Maintain a safe environment for self, patients, and others
- Remain alert and attentive at all times to ensure patient safety and well-being
- Provide direct patient care such as vital signs and transporting patients to other departments as delegated by and under the supervision of a licensed nurse
- Stock linens and supplies
- Document observations, interventions, and pertinent information accurately and timely within EPIC
- Prioritize and execute tasks for assigned patients in a timely and efficient manner
- Alert nursing staff promptly to any signs of distress, discomfort, or changes in patient condition
- Maintain a calm and professional presence for patients and their family members
- Follow all hospital or facility protocols and procedures related to patient observation and safety
- Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Variable start times, primarily 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association
- Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology
- Experience working in a healthcare environment
- Experience working in an electronic medical record system such as EPIC
- Minimum one year of relevant experience
