Patient Care Assistant Operating Room

Akron Children's is seeking a Patient Care Assistant for the Operating Room to provide continuous observation and individual care for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on children and their families in a pediatric surgical setting.

Clinical Setting

This role is based onsite in the Main Operating Room at Akron Children's, working with pediatric patients in a surgical environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous, one-on-one observation and monitoring of assigned patients
• Provide evidence-based de-escalation interventions
• Maintain a safe environment for self, patients, and others
• Remain alert and attentive at all times to ensure patient safety and well-being
• Provide direct patient care such as vital signs and transporting patients to other departments as delegated by and under the supervision of a licensed nurse
• Stock linens and supplies
• Document observations, interventions, and pertinent information accurately and timely within EPIC
• Prioritize and execute tasks for assigned patients in a timely and efficient manner
• Alert nursing staff promptly to any signs of distress, discomfort, or changes in patient condition
• Maintain a calm and professional presence for patients and their family members
• Follow all hospital or facility protocols and procedures related to patient observation and safety
• Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Variable start times, primarily 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association
• Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology
• Experience working in a healthcare environment
• Experience working in an electronic medical record system such as EPIC
• Minimum one year of relevant experience
