Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School, a TK–8th grade Jewish community day school, is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse to manage student health services. You will work in a warm, hands-on school environment providing direct care to students, administering medications and first aid, maintaining health records, and partnering with staff and families to support student wellbeing.
Clinical Setting
This is a part-time school nursing position at a Jewish community day school serving students in transitional kindergarten through 8th grade. You will work independently and collaboratively with teachers, administration, and a part-time nursing colleague.
Responsibilities
- Administer first aid and medications including insulin, inhalers, nasal spray, and oral or injected medications per RN licensure and school policy
- Exercise sound, independent nursing assessment and clinical judgment when evaluating student symptoms, injuries, and emergencies, and determine appropriate next steps
- Maintain accurate, timely electronic health records using August Schools EMR
- Communicate proactively and professionally with parents and staff regarding student health, both in writing and by phone
- Understand and consistently apply current state and local rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Serve as the leader on the school's emergency and first aid response team
- Process and track annual student health forms, immunizations, and screenings; follow up with families as needed to ensure compliance before the school year starts
- Maintain staff TB records and coordinate annual CPR and first aid training
- Collaborate with the part-time nurse, teachers, and administration on wellness initiatives and student-specific health needs
- Order and manage health office and emergency supplies; maintain the health office in an organized and presentable condition
- Maintain confidentiality of all health information
Schedule
- Part-time, 2–3 days per week
- School holidays off
- Paid sick time included
Compensation
- $40–$45 per hour, commensurate with experience
- Paid only for hours worked
Required Qualifications
- Valid California RN license
- Associate's degree in Nursing (Bachelor's degree preferred)
- Current AHA First Aid/CPR/AED certification
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a relevant medical field
- Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Zoom, and willingness to learn August Schools EMR
- Excellent organizational skills, sound judgment, and discretion to handle sensitive situations with care
- Ability to prioritize and balance various duties
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for regular correspondence and conversation with parents
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse school community
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with children, ideally in a school or pediatric setting
