Join NYU Langone Health as a Part Time Patient Care Technician/Senior Nursing Attendant on the 11E Medicine unit. This evening shift position (22.5 hours per week) offers the opportunity to provide direct patient care support in a leading academic medical center consistently ranked among the nation's best for patient outcomes.
Clinical Setting
You will work on a medicine unit within NYU Langone Health, a fully integrated health system with six inpatient locations, a comprehensive cancer center, and over 320 outpatient locations across the New York area and Florida. The system is ranked the No. 1 comprehensive academic medical center in the country and includes two tuition-free medical schools and a major research enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Assist the professional nurse in providing competent, safe, and compassionate patient care
- Complete assigned patient care tasks with emphasis on understanding the challenges patients face during hospitalization, procedures, or diagnostic tests
- Perform specialized clinical skills including phlebotomy, fingerstick glucose testing, and electrocardiograms
- Answer patient call lights promptly and assist with personal care and activities as applicable
- Observe and report patient behavior and concerns to the assigned registered nurse
- Perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the nursing unit, patient rooms, and equipment
- Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are present in patient rooms and on the unit
- Support unit activities and assist in emergency situations as directed
- Participate in data collection for quality and performance improvement programs
- Demonstrate understanding of infection prevention and control standards
- Communicate responsively and supportively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
- Provide security for patients' personal property and handle valuables according to hospital procedure
- Run errands to other departments including delivery of specimens and equipment
- Participate in orientation of other patient care technicians and unit meetings
- Complete annual mandatory education requirements
Required Qualifications
For Patient Care Technician track:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One of the following:
- Graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience
- CNA graduate plus course completion in EKG and Phlebotomy with PCT certification eligibility and at least 6 months hospital experience
- PCT Certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) with at least 6 months hospital experience
- BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry
- Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire
For Senior Nursing Attendant track:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Nursing Attendant (CNA) certification with at least 6 months relevant experience
- BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry to the position

- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization

Schedule

Compensation
- Hourly rate: $32.64
- Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need
