This part-time position provides nursing support for youth in the Safety Harbor residential program. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will coordinate medical, dental, vision, and behavioral health services while maintaining accurate health records. You report directly to the Safety Harbor Program Director.
Responsibilities
- Develop schedules and provide training and education for youth and staff on health and medical topics including CPR, First Aid, OSHA, nutrition, and other health-related areas as assigned
- Arrange and coordinate medical, dental, vision, and other services for youth, including regularly scheduled and emergency appointments
- Complete youth assessments and chart audits on an initial and ongoing basis, including physical, dental, vision, hearing, and other evaluations as appropriate
- Obtain initial medication consents and maintain current medication consents
- Consult with Youth Ranches staff on youth medical needs and issues, including consultation, training, and monitoring of treatment protocols prescribed by physicians, as well as follow-up on first aid
- Set up and maintain clinic records, files, and administrative documentation related to clinic and medical services
- Maintain the clinic and first aid areas on campus, ensuring they are clean and well-stocked with adequate supplies and equipment that are regularly inventoried
- Assist with Medicaid and other third-party insurance eligibility, claims, and billing matters
- Maintain good public relations with the medical community and serve as liaison between Youth Ranches and doctors, dentists, orthodontists, emergency rooms, pharmacies, and other medical providers
- Monitor the administration of prescription and over-the-counter medications by cottage parents, youth care assistants, program leaders, and other direct care staff
- Monitor medication logs and follow up on prescribed treatments for youth in care
- Provide regular input to supervisors concerning direct care staff who do not follow protocol or prescribed treatment for youth in their care
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Current Florida LPN license
- Sound knowledge of medical procedures
- Ability to make proper judgments in times of crisis
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive health information
- Knowledge of medical equipment and its use
- Ability to present an example of good health and hygienic practices
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, proportions, and basic measurements, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to identify problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret a variety of instructions, and effectively manage situations involving multiple variables
- Valid Florida Driver License with ability to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy

- Previous experience in the nursing field, especially with youth
