PACU RN Student Certified Nursing Assistant BWFH

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital is seeking a Perianesthesia Patient Care Assistant to provide direct and indirect care to perioperative patients in the PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit). This per diem position supports efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care under the supervision of the Clinical Leader, Charge Nurse, or Nursing Director.

You must be a current nursing student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or an equivalent medical/surgical clinical rotation.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect care to perioperative patients
• Perform EKGs and blood glucose monitoring
• Support perianesthesia procedures within scope of practice
• Respond to medical emergency situations using Heartsaver CPR and AED skills
• Transport patients safely throughout the hospital using proper body mechanics
• Secure and manage equipment and supplies
• Collect and record patient data including vital signs, intake and output, blood sugar, weights, and restraint care monitoring
• Maintain timely verbal communication with the RN regarding patient condition and delegated task completion
• Notify the RN immediately of any significant change in patient condition or monitoring alarms
• Anticipate and identify patient safety risks in collaboration with the care team
• Round and return loose oxygen cylinders to appropriate storage areas
• Clear hallways of clutter
• Provide informative, non-clinical information to patients and families
• Orient patients and visitors to the hospital, unit, and patient room services
• Reinforce patient education provided by the nurse
• Interact with patients, families, and staff in a professional manner
• Respect and maintain confidentiality and privacy of patient, employee, and hospital information
• Work cooperatively with all staff members

Required Qualifications

• Current nursing student status
• Completion of Fundamentals of Nursing or equivalent medical/surgical clinical rotation
• Ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English
• Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math, and reading testing
• Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements
• Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations
• Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift
• Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work
• Ability to manage stress related to patient care issues and changing hospital climate
• Compliance with established practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and regulations
• Compliance with hospital and nursing competencies and care standards

Certifications

• Heartsaver CPR and AED certification

Schedule

• Per diem position
• Minimum 16 shifts in 6 months
• At least 1-2 weekend shifts per month
• 8-hour shifts minimum
• Weekend and holiday rotation required
• Day shift
• Onsite only

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $18.56 - $27.58
