Outpatient Licensed Practical Nurse - LPN LVN - Dialysis

Fresenius Medical Care is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) to provide direct patient care in our outpatient dialysis centers. This is a full-time position with no overnight shifts or Sunday requirements. Dialysis experience is not required—we provide paid training for qualified candidates.

Clinical Setting

You will work as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team in an outpatient dialysis facility, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy to assigned patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. You may be required to provide coverage at area facilities during times of short-staffing.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for assigned patients
• Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures as prescribed and monitor treatments in accordance with the current treatment plan
• Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters on dialysis flow sheets and in individual patient records
• Report any significant changes in patient condition or equipment problems to the supervisor
• Administer intravenous medication in accordance with physician orders and state nurse practice laws
• Perform and document pre-, interim, and post-treatment review of patient condition
• Assist in developing and following teaching plans to educate patients and families regarding end-stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications
• Initiate basic CPR measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest and respond to emergency situations related to dialysis treatment
• Safely operate all dialysis-related equipment according to proper procedures and provide minor troubleshooting when necessary
• Ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in the treatment area, including immediate response to blood spills according to Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies
• Operate all emergency equipment effectively in accordance with standard operation procedures
• Participate in staff meetings and patient care plan meetings
• Acquire knowledge in current dialysis practice by participating in scheduled in-service classes
• Act as a resource person for other staff members and assist with care plan coordination with physicians, dietitians, and social workers

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN or LVN)
• Current appropriate state licensure
• Successfully complete CPR Certification
• Successfully complete the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire or soon thereafter
• Successfully complete a training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis
• Meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to provide coverage at area facilities during times of short-staffing or as required

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of medical-surgical nursing experience
• Hemodialysis experience
• ICU experience

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This position involves direct patient care that regularly includes heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation. You will frequently stand for prolonged periods and must be able to bend over. You may occasionally move machines and equipment weighing up to 200 pounds with assistance and may lift chemical water solutions of up to 30 pounds as high as 5 feet. The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. Travel to regional, business unit, and corporate meetings may be required.

The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. You may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases and materials.

Compensation

Hourly rate: $22.00 - $35.00 (based on work location and qualifications, including relevant education, work experience, skills, and competencies)
