Outpatient Infusion RN (IV RN): Oncology

MercyOne North Iowa Cancer Center is seeking an Outpatient Infusion RN to administer chemotherapy, cardiac infusions, and other outpatient infusions in our oncology clinic setting. As an IV Registered Nurse, you will deliver direct patient care through the nursing process while providing infusions including chemotherapy and other anti-cancer drugs, cardiac treatments, COVID-related infusions, and other outpatient therapies. You will care for oncology/hematology, cardiac, COVID, and other outpatient infusion patients while maintaining professional nursing standards.

Clinical Setting

MercyOne North Iowa Cancer Center is a comprehensive oncology facility designed to provide a broad spectrum of cancer treatment services in one accessible location. The center is staffed by highly specialized professionals with extensive experience in high-quality cancer care, including state-of-the-art therapies, personalized medicine, surgery, clinical research, and support services.

Responsibilities

• Administer chemotherapy, anti-cancer drugs, cardiac infusions, COVID infusions, and other outpatient injections/infusions with accuracy
• Assess patients and identify common, complex, and unusual physical and psychosocial needs
• Provide accurate and timely documentation of all outpatient infusion procedures and patient information based on nursing standards
• Guide and direct patient care activities using clinical and critical thinking skills and evidence-based practice
• Triage patient phone calls and assess level of care needed, referring to physicians or providing nursing intervention as appropriate
• Provide or facilitate learning opportunities to meet patient and family educational needs by assessing learning needs and developing teaching plans
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve desired patient care outcomes
• Support a safe environment for patients and staff by following established guidelines
• Maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, medical staff, and other departments while demonstrating effective communication
• Participate in department staff huddles, committee meetings, peer evaluations, and goal setting
• Assist in process improvement activities and participate in the department's Culture of Safety and Engagement Action Plan
• Manage work hours and staffing to volumes, keeping overtime to a minimum and utilizing supplies appropriately
• Provide backup support to other RNs assisting providers with consultations, exams, procedures, and treatments
• Maintain department confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
• Support and abide by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures
• Participate in medical center and departmental education programs to enhance job-related knowledge and skills

Schedule

• Full-time position, 36 hours per week
• 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• No weekends or holidays

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of a professional nursing program
• Current RN license in the state of Iowa
• Must complete and successfully pass ACLS certification within 6 months of hire
• Must complete Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) courses: Cancer Basics and Chemotherapy Biotherapy: Fundamentals of Administration
• Must successfully complete Chemotherapy Skills Checklists prior to administering chemotherapy
• After 9 months of employment, must successfully complete the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate course and renew every 2 years

Preferred Qualifications

• Chemotherapy and cardiac drug administration experience
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in an oncology inpatient or outpatient healthcare setting
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a healthcare setting (inpatient, outpatient, home care, hospice, or clinic)
• OCN certification within 2 years of employment
• Current ACLS certification or willingness to obtain certification within 6 months of hire
• Completion of necessary cardiac dysrhythmias and management courses within 3 months of hire
