Outpatient Infusion RN (IV RN) - Medical Oncology

MercyOne North Iowa is seeking an Outpatient Infusion RN to join the Medical Oncology clinic. In this role, you will administer outpatient injections and infusions including chemotherapy, anti-cancer drugs, cardiac medications, and other infusion therapies in a designated outpatient infusion area. You will provide direct patient care while maintaining professional nursing standards, direct and guide patient and family education, and function as a clinical resource for department staff.

Clinical Setting

This position is based in the outpatient oncology infusion clinic at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, a 346-bed not-for-profit teaching hospital and the largest healthcare provider in the region.

Responsibilities

• Administer chemotherapy, anti-cancer drugs, cardiac medications, and other outpatient infusions
• Accept responsibility and accountability for delivery of care through the nursing process
• Care for oncology/hematology, cardiac, COVID, and other outpatient infusion patients
• Provide and facilitate patient and family education by assessing learning needs and developing teaching plans
• Collaborate with patients and families to identify complex teaching needs
• Function as a resource for department staff
• Maintain professional nursing standards within the MercyOne North Iowa professional nursing practice plan

Schedule

• Part-time, 24 hours per week
• Day shift

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of a professional nursing program
• Current RN license in the state of Iowa
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in an oncology inpatient or outpatient healthcare setting preferred; alternatively, minimum of 4 years in any healthcare setting (inpatient, outpatient, home care, hospice, or clinic)
• Chemotherapy and cardiac drug administration experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Iowa RN license
• ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire
• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Cancer Basics course required prior to administering chemotherapy
• ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy: Fundamentals of Administration course required prior to administering chemotherapy
• Successful completion of Chemotherapy Skills Checklists required prior to administering chemotherapy
• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate course required within 9 months of employment, with renewal every 2 years
• OCN certification strongly preferred within 2 years of employment
• Current ACLS certification strongly preferred, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
• Cardiac dysrhythmias and management courses strongly preferred within 3 months of hire
