Orthopedic Technician | Inventory & Patient Care - Kyle Clinic - Texas Orthopedics

Texas Orthopedics seeks an Orthopedic Technician to provide clinical support and inventory management at our Kyle Clinic location. In this full-time role, you will assist physicians with patient care activities including casting, bracing, and DME application while managing clinic inventory, ordering supplies, and overseeing medication and medication samples. You will serve as a resource to clinical staff and providers, help train and mentor clinic personnel, and maintain OSHA compliance across all clinic operations.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a busy orthopedic clinic environment within Texas Orthopedics, one of Central Texas's largest independent orthopedic practices. The clinic serves patients requiring musculoskeletal care, orthopedic services, rheumatologic care, and physical therapy. You may travel between multiple clinic locations in the Austin area as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians with daily patient care activities including medical assistant and orthopedic technician duties
• Perform casting, bracing, splinting, and DME application according to established checklists and quality standards
• Manage clinic inventory by ordering supplies, maintaining proper reorder levels, and ensuring orderly storage of all DME and clinical supplies
• Serve as super user for the inventory program and manage assigned location inventory
• Manage tech-only appointments for your assigned location
• Manage medication and medication samples
• Capture insurance benefits and authorization requirements for DME
• Maintain quality standards for DME according to Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal or state agency regulations
• Document all patient care actions in the EMR system in a timely manner
• Assist the Office Manager in training and performance improvement of clinical staff
• Serve as a mentor to clinic staff and a resource regarding EMR systems, clinic policies, and procedures
• Answer medical questions for clinic and administrative staff
• Voice concerns regarding protocols, workflow, or staffing to the Office Manager
• Maintain OSHA compliance through routine autoclave cleaning and testing, AED and emergency equipment checks, and stocking of sick and PPE boxes
• Provide backup staffing and perform essential MA and Ortho Tech functions during vacancies or shortages
• Maintain strictest confidentiality regarding patient care and business information
• Complete special projects as directed by the Office Manager or Director of Patient Services

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Mastery of clinic skills and DME/casting/splinting checklists
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with physicians, staff, and outside consultants
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications, including EMR
• Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements
• Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, problem solving, and decision-making
• Ability to differentiate and appropriately communicate confidential information regarding patient care, business practices, and pricing
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of medical and surgical care
• Full range of motion including ability to handle and lift patients, with manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
• Adequate visual acuity to read, interpret written material, and perform required procedures
• Adequate hearing and speaking abilities to interact appropriately with patients and co-workers
• Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• MA or Orthopedic Technician Certification
• One year of experience as an Orthopedic Technician with Texas Orthopedics and/or Orthopedic Technician Certification
• Experience in supply ordering and OSHA knowledge
• Three-year history of casting, splinting, and applying DME

Physical Demands

• Exposure to bodily fluids
• Sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching
• Frequent walking and standing for extended periods
• Occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to assist patients weighing up to 300 pounds and position them for procedures

Working Conditions

• Clinic setting with potential travel between multiple clinic locations
• Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and bodily fluids
