Operating Room Technician 2 (experienced), Main OR, Jackson Main, FT, Days

Jackson Memorial Hospital's Main Operating Room is seeking an experienced Operating Room Technician 2 to assist in the performance of complex surgical procedures. In this full-time, day-shift role, you will work in a tertiary teaching hospital with 1,500 licensed beds, supporting a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled healthcare professionals across nearly every medical specialty.

Clinical Setting

Jackson Memorial Hospital is one of the nation's largest public hospitals and a world-class academic medical center located in Miami, Florida. The Main Operating Room is a high-volume surgical environment where you will support complex surgical cases.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures and maintain operational readiness of specialized equipment
• Inspect and clean the room prior to procedures
• Collect necessary equipment and supplies using the surgeon's procedure card
• Maintain aseptic technique throughout all phases of work
• Assemble instruments and supplies on the table and mayo stand
• Perform counts with the circulating nurse
• Assist in draping the operative site
• Assist the surgeon and scrub nurse; anticipate and supply instruments, sutures, and sponges throughout the procedure
• Identify and maintain specimens after release from the surgeon until handoff to the circulating nurse
• Identify medications on the sterile table according to policy and procedure
• Utilize safety measures for patient, self, and team members when handling sharps, cautery, and other equipment
• Assist in transferring patients to the recovery room bed when necessary
• Perform total cleanup and prepare the room for the next procedure
• Maintain operating room instruments and equipment following surgery
• Demonstrate service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise)
• Perform unit-specific duties and other related job duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of related operating room experience
• High school diploma
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers, required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintained throughout employment at Jackson Health System
• Any additional applicable life support certifications required by the clinical area
• Current competency in all unit-specific and organizational skills and competencies as required by the clinical area

Preferred Qualifications

• Operating Room Technician certification
