Operating Room Tech - St. Peter's Hospital

St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY is seeking a skilled Operating Room Tech/Surgical Tech to join our surgical services team. In this role, you will provide essential support in the operating room, working as first scrub at the surgical table for select procedures while maintaining the highest standards of sterility and safety.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a fast-paced surgical environment supporting multiple surgical specialties. The hospital offers a learning atmosphere with peers and leaders committed to staff development, a supportive work environment, and thorough orientation.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance as first scrub at the surgical table for select procedures
• Create and maintain sterile field
• Prepare operating rooms for surgery
• Monitor breaks in technique and function, including scrub/gown technique, clean sterile field, and sterile field setup
• Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening and maintain sterility of instruments and supplies while scrubbed
• Perform and document accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts following established policies and procedures
• Position and transport patients

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and current certified surgical technologist (CST) credential from a nationally accredited credentialing organization; OR
• Current New York State LPN License; OR
• Completion of an appropriate surgical technology training program in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; OR
• Evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year within the four years immediately prior to January 1, 2015
• Adequate hearing, vision, and hand dexterity to manipulate instruments and equipment while functioning in multiple surgical specialties

Note: Individuals may be employed during the twelve-month period immediately following successful completion of a surgical technology program without certification, but cannot continue employment beyond that period without obtaining a certified surgical technologist credential. After thorough and diligent recruitment efforts, candidates may be hired if they meet requirements within two years of their start date.

Schedule and Employment

• Full-time position

Compensation and Benefits

• Pay range: $27.15 - $35.75 per hour
• Pay is based on experience, skills, and education

Note: Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
