Operating Room RN

ThedaCare is seeking an Operating Room RN to provide specialized, patient-centered nursing care in a fast-paced surgical environment. As an OR nurse, you will work in a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio, advocating for patients at their most vulnerable while collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other skilled professionals to deliver exceptional perioperative care.

At the Appleton campus, you will have the opportunity to participate in diverse surgical specialties including Robotics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, ENT, Plastics, Gynecologic, Vascular, Level III Trauma care, and surgical oncology.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process and evidence-based practice to assess patient physical condition and nursing needs, developing collaborative plans of care with the interprofessional team
• Demonstrate clinical expertise in perioperative nursing with age-appropriate, developmentally sensitive, and culturally specific care
• Advocate for patients and maintain positive relationships with physicians and interprofessional team members to problem-solve and improve patient care
• Identify opportunities to improve patient experience, streamline care processes, and lower costs while promoting quality
• Demonstrate, anticipate, and proactively manage risk to prevent crises and perform skillfully in life-threatening emergencies
• Contribute to a professional environment that encourages mentoring, engagement, and development of expert clinicians

Schedule

• Variable 8-hour shifts with start times between 5:00 AM and 1:00 PM
• On-call requirement: 1 night per week and every 4th weekend (Friday-Sunday)
• Holiday call 1-2 times per year
• 30-minute response time expected for call
• 32 scheduled weekly hours (0.8 FTE)

Required Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin RN license
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire date
• American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of hire date

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Demands

• Ability to move freely including standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform patient care procedures
• Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
• Exposure to blood-borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids)
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
• Standing and/or walking for extended periods
• Transporting, transferring, and positioning patients and equipment
• Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
• Occasional contact with aggressive or combative patients
• Occasional high noise levels in work environment
