The opportunity

Job Description

Stamford Health is seeking experienced Operating Room RNs to join our surgical teams across multiple locations, including the main Operating Room, HSS Main OR, and HSS Tully Health Center OR. This is a full-time position with a $30,000 sign-on bonus. We are hiring for all shifts: day, evening, and night. Cardiovascular OR RN opportunities are also available for candidates with experience in that specialty.

As an Operating Room RN, you will provide direct patient care utilizing the nursing process and established standards of practice. You will coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic care while advocating for patients throughout their surgical experience. This role includes supervising non-RN personnel, acting as a resource for ancillary staff, serving as a preceptor to new staff and students as requested, and maintaining compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

You will work in a Magnet-designated hospital recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a High-Performing Hospital and awarded an "A" for patient safety by The Leapfrog Group. Stamford Health is a major teaching affiliate of Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and partners with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) for specialty orthopedic care and Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center for cancer care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to assigned patients and advocate on their behalf
  • Assess patients' physical and psychosocial conditions throughout the continuum of care
  • Develop and communicate patient care plans reflecting patient issues and proposed interventions
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team in implementing care plans
  • Provide patient and family education based on assessed learning needs
  • Communicate effectively with all healthcare team members to provide accurate patient care information
  • Supervise unit activities when assigned to charge or clinical coordinator roles
  • Supervise non-RN personnel and act as a resource for ancillary staff
  • Practice the 5 rights of patient safety when administering medications, blood products, and treatments
  • Respond to crises in a calm, efficient manner, directing others concisely
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and the effectiveness of care plans; revise as needed
  • Document pertinent information, observations, and all aspects of patient care clearly and timely
  • Maintain equipment and utilize supplies in a safe, cost-effective manner
  • Participate in performance improvement and risk management activities
  • Participate in clinical research activities and demonstrate evidence-based practice
  • Support hospital-wide and unit-specific initiatives including Planetree, Magnet, and specialty certifications
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards of care
  • Complete required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements
  • Take responsibility for professional development and actively seek ways to enhance professional knowledge and competence
  • Comply with hospital attendance and departmental staffing policies and rotations
  • Adhere to hospital and department dress code policies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain a high level of service

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Valid RN license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgical center setting
  • BLS certification
  • Maintain minimum of 6 contact hours annually

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Experience in cardiovascular OR nursing (for cardiovascular OR positions)
