Operating Room Registered Nurse

Emory Healthcare is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to deliver safe, effective, and independent nursing care in a specialty surgical setting. This role is ideal for an experienced RN who understands patient care for specific populations and can adapt to changing situations while personalizing care based on clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice.

Clinical Practice and Patient Care

• Deliver safe, effective, and independent nursing care using the nursing process
• Perform thorough patient assessments and recognize the impact of nursing care on outcomes
• Develop and implement patient care plans, incorporating patient and family input and adjusting as needed
• Document care accurately and efficiently in electronic and physical records
• Identify patient and family learning needs and recommend appropriate resources
• Recognize cultural differences and individualize care accordingly

Leadership and Team Collaboration

• Delegate appropriately and work effectively with the interdisciplinary team, patient, and family care partners
• Function in a developing leadership role, including Charge Nurse responsibilities when assigned
• Assist in orienting staff and students in the absence of a designated preceptor
• Demonstrate strong communication and conflict resolution skills

Quality Improvement and Professional Development

• Identify the need for policy revisions based on evidence-based research
• Engage in professional growth and actively apply evidence-based practice in daily work
• Collect, report, and analyze data to improve patient care and meet organizational standards
• Participate in surveys, interviews, and other methods to identify and resolve areas for improvement
• Maintain required professional development points and contact hours

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with a minimum of 12 months of recent nursing experience within the past five years, OR graduate of an accredited prelicensure Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with a minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience within the past five years. Recent completion of a re-entry nursing program may substitute for experience requirements.
• Valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification may be required for certain departments, post hire
• Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty
• If completing virtual care activities that may include multi-state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire. Employees in role prior to 11/09/2025 will have until their next renewal date to achieve compact status.
• If hired into a Wound Care Department, completion of an accredited WOC Nursing Education program is required, with certification in Wound Care and Ostomy Care within 12 months of entering the role

Exceptions

• Current LPNs employed within the Emory Healthcare system who have completed an accredited RN program and obtain RN licensure are eligible to transition into this role while completing the RN Resident Program
• Emory LPNs enrolled in an Emory ADN program as of 3/30/2025 must sign an obligation agreement to complete an ADN-to-BSN program within two years of entering the RN Clinician role

Physical Requirements

This position involves medium-heavy physical demands: occasionally lifting up to 75 lbs and carrying objects up to 35 lbs; frequently lifting 20-35 lbs; constantly lifting 10-20 lbs. The role requires occasional to frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting, and close eye work including computer use, typing, reading, and writing. Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental Factors

Environmental exposures may include blood-borne pathogen exposure, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, gases, fumes, vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, variable floor surfaces, hot and cold temperatures, indoor and outdoor conditions, latex, variable lighting, patient care and handling injury risks, radiation, and shift work. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be required. Environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
