The opportunity

Job Description

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is seeking Operating Room Registered Nurses to join our OR West team at this Magnet-designated, Harvard-affiliated academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center. This position offers the opportunity to advance your perioperative practice alongside nationally recognized surgeons, cutting-edge technology, and a highly skilled collaborative OR team in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment.

As a Perioperative Nurse, you will provide direct care to patients undergoing complex and emergent surgical procedures, including bariatric surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, orthopedic trauma, spine surgery, major plastic reconstruction, robotic-assisted procedures, and kidney and liver transplant. You will play a critical role in delivering life-saving care and supporting some of the most advanced surgical programs in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to patients and make necessary nursing judgments
  • Systematically assess the health care needs of individuals and formulate, implement, and evaluate care plans
  • Integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experience in patient care decision-making
  • Coordinate patient care and direct assistive personnel to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable, and timely patient-centered care
  • Identify resources necessary to implement the plan of care
  • Work collaboratively with other health professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families
  • Develop relationships with patients and families that maintain and communicate trust and respect
  • Communicate effectively in the exchange of information and act as a patient advocate
  • Maintain annual mandatory education requirements, including emergency skills and unit-based competencies
  • Identify needs for continued professional growth and development
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Demonstrate commitment to patients, staff, and BIDMC
  • Maintain responsibility and accountability for own nursing practice and patient safety

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • Shift options: 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts
  • Call requirements: Off-shifts, weekends, and holidays

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room RN experience
  • Completion of the Periop 101 program
  • Current Massachusetts RN license or eligibility
  • BLS certification
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing strongly preferred
  • 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate web-based applications at a basic level

Compensation and Benefits

  • $15,000 sign-on bonus for experienced OR nurses
  • Competitive compensation with base hourly wage range of $38.00 - $98.19
  • Actual compensation determined based on seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography, job responsibilities, and other applicable factors
  • Compensation may exceed base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices

Additional Requirements

  • Influenza vaccination required as a condition of employment
  • Competency to provide patient care to neonatal (birth to 6 months), young adult (16-30 years), middle age (30-60 years), and elderly (60+) age groups
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally or up to 20 pounds of force frequently
  • Job is physical in nature; employee must stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift
