Denver Health is recruiting an Operating Room Registered Nurse for a full-time, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM position in our Inpatient Operating Room. This is a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio role providing direct surgical nursing care in an 11-room, highly specialized surgical unit that operates 24/7 and serves patients with complex and high-acuity needs across Colorado and surrounding states.
Clinical Setting
The Inpatient Operating Room at Denver Health is a state-of-the-art surgical facility that provides comprehensive surgical services including general surgery, trauma, spine and neurosurgery, bariatric, ENT, genitourinary and gynecology, plastics and hand, gender affirmation, pediatrics, oral maxillofacial and dental, ophthalmology, orthopedics, oncology, and vascular surgery. The unit also houses a state-of-the-art Hybrid Operating Room for advanced image-guided vascular and endovascular procedures. Denver Health's Bariatric Surgery Center, located within the inpatient OR, is the only MBSAQIP-certified (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program) hospital in Denver serving both adolescents (ages 16–20) and adults (ages 21–65). The unit is staffed by a highly experienced and skilled clinical team and maintains continuous staffing to minimize the need for call while maintaining exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assess the needs of individuals, families, and communities to identify potential health or safety problems
- Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patient condition and vital signs
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patient responses and conditions
- Develop and modify patient care plans as indicated by patient responses and conditions
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations and treatments
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
- Direct and supervise less skilled nursing and healthcare personnel
- Instruct individuals and families on health education, disease prevention, and aftercare
- Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients
- Administer medications, document, and reassess
- Promote positive patient experience
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Nursing
- One year of operating room experience or completion of Periop 101
- Active RN license from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association
- Adherence to ANA Standards of Professional Nursing Practice and accrediting body standards
- Completion of clinical competency standards
- Ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
- Clear communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge and applicability of principles of growth and development across the lifespan
- Ability to assess patient data and interpret appropriate cultural information
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification
- EPIC documentation experience
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. This is a regular, full-time position.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $36.00 to $57.77 per hour
