The opportunity

Job Description

TriStar Centennial Medical Center is seeking an Operating Room Nurse for a Joint OR PRN position. In this role, you will provide perioperative nursing care in a collaborative surgical environment at a 740+ bed comprehensive medical center with specialized programs including heart and vascular, neurosciences, oncology, orthopedics, and advanced joint replacement services.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery and provide patient and family education about the procedure and perioperative process
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
  • Participate in surgical site verification protocols including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols according to hospital policy
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Function as an integral member of the interdisciplinary surgical team including providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists
  • Apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care
  • Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and thoroughly document changes in patient condition and care provided
  • Educate patients and families/caregivers about medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up measures

Schedule

  • Self/preferential scheduling posted four weeks in advance for schedule predictability
  • On-call is required during select non-business hours

  • Collaborative culture of mutual respect among all surgical staff
  • Continuous investment in equipment including surgical instruments, devices, and patient positioning
  • Rounding with unit leaders including charge nurses to ensure your voice is heard on suggestions for patient care and surgical workflow improvement

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Associate Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma
  • OR circulating experience required
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
