We are seeking a full-time Operating Room Nurse to assist the OR Charge Nurse in organizing and managing daily operating room functions. In this role, you will oversee safe, effective, and efficient patient care throughout the perioperative period by preparing surgical environments, sterilizing equipment, assessing patients before and after surgery, and assisting surgeons during procedures. You will maintain sterile technique, ensure proper patient flow, and uphold the highest standards of safety and infection control.
Responsibilities
- Provide perioperative care to patients in procedure, operating, and recovery rooms
- Prepare and maintain operating rooms with all necessary surgical supplies and equipment
- Develop and implement care plans for surgical patients
- Evaluate and assess surgical patients prior to surgery and during postoperative phases
- Assist in the maintenance and storage of surgical equipment and supplies
- Apply aseptic and sterile techniques to medical instruments and equipment before, during, and after surgery
- Prepare patients for surgery by disinfecting skin at the operation site and positioning them on the operating table
- Communicate with patients and healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of pre- and postoperative care
- Maintain collegial relationships with physicians and staff to ensure quality patient care
- Update patient files and medical records
- Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards
- Perform other duties as assigned or delegated
Required Qualifications
- Active and valid Idaho RN license
- BLS certification required within 3 months of hire
- ACLS certification required within 3 months of hire
- In-depth knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and supplies
- Extensive knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques
- Highly skilled at assessing patients prior to surgery and providing perioperative care
- Ability to collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals
- Solid understanding of patient health and safety standards
- Excellent organizational skills
- Independent decision-making skills
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in a dynamic and changing environment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to foster collaboration and respect with physician colleagues and staff
- Strong competency as RN circulator
- Ability to read, speak, and write English fluently
- Ability to interact well with a high volume of patients, surgeons, and staff in a stressful environment
- Ability to lift 25 pounds; moving, lifting, or transferring patients, instruments, and equipment may involve lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Fine motor skills
- Visual and auditory acuity

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
This position requires considerable time walking, bending, stretching, standing, and assisting in patient transfers. You must follow proper body mechanics to guard against injury. OR nurses may face hazards from exposure to chemicals and biological agents including body fluids and wastes such as urine, blood, and sputum; disinfecting and sterilizing agents; anesthetic gases; drugs; and radiation. The position regularly requires standing, walking briskly, talking, and hearing. Occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be required. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Auditory abilities required include the ability to correctly distinguish various body sounds such as respirations and heart sounds, and to discern sounds made by various types of machinery or equipment that would indicate dangerous or improper operation.
