The opportunity

Job Description

Boulders Ambulatory Surgery Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking an Operating Room Nurse for our AAAHC-accredited orthopedic surgery center in Richmond, Virginia. This role offers the opportunity to work in a high-volume surgical environment performing over 250 cases monthly, including arthroscopic procedures, joint replacements, rotator cuff repairs, and other orthopedic surgeries. You will provide direct patient care in either a circulating or scrub role, ensuring safe and effective nursing care throughout the perioperative process.

Clinical Setting

Boulders Ambulatory Surgery Center is a specialized orthopedic facility serving Henrico County and surrounding communities. The center performs a full range of orthopedic procedures including arthroscopic surgery, ACL repair, carpal tunnel release, fracture reduction, frozen shoulder treatment, knee osteotomy, meniscectomy, rotator cuff repair, and total joint replacement of the shoulder, hip, and knee.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery and provide patient and family education about the procedure and perioperative process
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
  • Participate in surgical site verification protocols including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols according to hospital policy
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Function as an integral member of the interdisciplinary surgical team, including providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists
  • Apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care
  • Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and thoroughly document changes in patient condition and care provided
  • Educate patients and families or caregivers about medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up measures

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an operating room setting, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center
  • Active RN license as required by state of employment or appropriate compact licensure
  • Valid BCLS Certification upon employment (online certification not acceptable)
  • ACLS Certification as required by facility

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Wage Estimate: $37.48 - $53.54 per hour. The estimate represents the typical wage range of candidates hired. Actual salary may vary based on specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees in this role. The typical candidate is hired below the midpoint of the range.
