Puyana Plastic Surgery is seeking an experienced OR Coordinator to lead the day-to-day operations of an on-site office-based surgical facility in Coral Gables, Florida. This role combines hands-on clinical participation with facility management, requiring someone who can oversee surgical operations, maintain regulatory compliance, manage inventory, and lead a surgical team.
Clinical Setting
This is a full-time position in a private office-based surgical facility specializing in plastic surgery. You will work in both the operating room and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), coordinating with Dr. Puyana, anesthesia providers, nurses, surgical assistants, and other surgical team members.
Responsibilities
OR Operations
- Oversee daily operations and readiness of the OR and PACU
- Ensure surgical areas are properly staffed, organized, stocked, and prepared for each surgical day
- Coordinate OR and PACU staff and ensure appropriate coverage for scheduled cases
- Support efficient patient flow from pre-operative preparation through surgery, recovery, and discharge
- Provide hands-on clinical support when appropriate based on qualifications, training, and scope of practice
- Identify and resolve operational issues proactively
Clinical Documentation and Compliance
- Review surgical charts and required documentation for completeness and accuracy
- Ensure OR, PACU, anesthesia, sterilization, medication, emergency equipment, and other clinical logs are completed accurately and on time
- Oversee infection-control and sterilization processes, documentation, and required testing
- Ensure medications and controlled substances are properly stored, tracked, reconciled, and documented
- Maintain crash cart and emergency equipment readiness and ensure required checks are completed
- Help maintain compliance with applicable Florida office-surgery requirements, infection-control standards, and practice policies
- Maintain continuous readiness for regulatory inspections and compliance reviews
- Identify missing documentation or compliance gaps and ensure prompt correction
Inventory, Equipment, and Facility Readiness
- Oversee surgical supplies, medications, implants, and OR/PACU inventory
- Maintain appropriate par levels and ensure supplies are available before they are needed
- Coordinate purchasing, restocking, and vendor relationships
- Monitor expiration dates and maintain organized storage of medications and surgical supplies
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, inspections, servicing, repairs, and vendor visits
- Ensure the surgical facility remains organized, functional, and inspection-ready at all times
Team Leadership and Accountability
- Lead and coordinate OR and PACU personnel
- Establish clear expectations and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed
- Monitor adherence to clinical protocols, documentation requirements, safety standards, and practice policies
- Provide training, coaching, and feedback to surgical staff
- Assist with interviewing, onboarding, training, credentialing, and maintaining required personnel documentation
- Foster a professional, collaborative, accountable, and safety-focused surgical environment
- Address performance or operational concerns promptly and appropriately
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience in an operating room, ambulatory surgery center, office-based surgical facility, or similar surgical environment
- Strong knowledge of OR and perioperative workflows
- Strong knowledge of surgical documentation, infection control, sterilization, medication management, inventory, and OR safety practices
- Appropriate clinical licensure and/or credentials based on professional background and responsibilities
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on surgical environment
- Proactive, dependable, and highly accountable
- Comfortable using digital documentation, spreadsheets, and practice-management systems
- Able to collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, surgical assistants, and administrative leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous OR leadership, supervisory, charge nurse, coordination, or management experience
- Plastic surgery experience
Schedule
Full-time position based in Coral Gables, Florida. Schedule will be based on surgical volume and practice needs. Flexibility may occasionally be required to support surgical operations.
