UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Operating Room Attendant for overnight shifts. In this role, you will support the surgical team by maintaining the operating room environment, managing supplies and equipment, and assisting with patient care during surgical procedures.
Schedule
- Shift: 7:30 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Thursday
- Orientation will occur on day shift
- On-call duties required
Responsibilities
- Perform operating room decontamination procedures after each surgical procedure using appropriate color-coded waste disposal systems and OSHA guidelines
- Order, stock, and monitor routine operating room supplies including blankets, surgical solutions, hair covers, shoe covers, masks, scrubs, brushes, and plastic liners
- Transport and retrieve patients, beds, instruments, supplies, equipment, and labs between surgery and other hospital locations in a timely and efficient manner
- Don sterile gloves and personal protective equipment to assist with patient transfer, prepping, and positioning
- Operate standard operating room equipment properly, safely, and efficiently
- Respond promptly to requests, overhead pages, and beeps; complete on-call duties in a timely manner
- Organize and prioritize tasks based on surgical schedule and identified needs while maintaining cost-effectiveness and quality patient care
- Participate in unit-based performance improvement activities
- Distribute operating room schedules throughout the hospital and campus
- Monitor and maintain operating room stretchers, beds, scrub sinks, and hallways for cleanliness and safety
- Prepare, maintain, and disassemble operating room utility carts daily
- Serve as a technical resource and preceptor to operating room staff and new attendants; complete clinical performance evaluations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or completion of a formal operating room attendant program or documented on-the-job training
- One to three years of experience in a hospital setting
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire
